Surrounding area

The centre of the village can be reached on foot via a tarmaced road. Here you will find two supermarkets, a couple of bars and gostilna's (slovene restaurants), and some terraces. The restaurant Raduha is highly recommended. They have a fantastic menu inspired by the french cuisine. A few kilometers further on in the valley is the Savinska Dolina national park with beautiful trails for walking and cycling and several lovely places to enjoy a drink and a view of the Alps. An icecave, Snezna Jama, can be found a few kilometers away, and will show you a unique ice structure in the heart of the mountain, all through summer. From Luce it is about a 30 minute car ride on a beautiful mountain road to the mountain plateau of Velika Planina where you can enjoy a full day of vistas and views of the Austrian Alps.

The village of Luce is located in the Upper Savinja valley which stretches from the village of Letus until the border at Paulitz Sattle, on top of the Savinja Alps, and is about 45 km wide. The river Savinja rises in the Alps and was traditionally used to transport logs to the Black Sea. This mode of transport is commemorated each year at the Flosserski Fest in the village of Ljubno ob Savinji. The capital city Ljubljana can be reached in one hour from Luce. This town that has developed itself into a fashionable city since the separation from the Eastern Block is certainly worth a visit. There are many restaurants, terraces, markets and upmarket shops to enjoy, but at minimum a stroll through the center and an icecream from the many icecream parlours is definitely called for.
